Paul Hernandez, the son of Claire Hernandez and nephew of Peggy & Jim Russell, is shipping off to Naval Station Great Lakes for recruit training (aka boot camp) on November 29th.
Paul is a St. Mary graduate (2014) and EC graduate (2018). He assisted with St. Mary’s PSR program for four years and also participated in the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps for five years. He graduated from the Sea Cadet program as a Petty Officer 2nd class. Paul’s rank in the Sea Cadet program allows him to enter the Navy at a higher rate and pay than most recruits after boot camp. Paul is scheduled to graduate boot camp at the end of January, then his next training is in California with the Construction Mechanics (aka Seabees).
Paul is a quiet, respectful young man. You can find him on most Sunday mornings at 8 am Mass sitting in the second row with his mom and aunt, then heading out to breakfast. We wish Paul well on his adventure, send prayers in his seabag, and thank him for choosing to serve his country.
