War is not a good thing unless it is a penny war. Our Student Council organized the grades into two teams, blue and yellow, to set the stage for a lively competition. The goal was to raise money for SEPA, Santa Elena Project of Accompaniment, a nonprofit charity based in Oberlin with the funds being used for a new church in Santa Elena, Guatemala,
The yellow team (preschool, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 8th grades) competed against the blue team (kdg., 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 7th grades), and the students brought in as many pennies as they could. Their contributions were add daily to the giant jars resting atop the blue and yellow seesaw outside the office. When the week ended, the members of the blue team were the victors. However, both teams did an outstanding job and raised a total of $313. Once again St. Mary’s students did their best to help those in need.
